"Building for the Brave" Groundbreaking in Lakeside!
On a beautiful day in Lakeside, Habitat was joined by San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob; Captain Gerral David, Chief of Staff, Navy Region Southwest; Dennis Briscoe, Founder of San Diego Habitat; and the USMC Miramar Color Guard to break ground on its first "Building for the Brave" community.  This project will provide four townhomes for affordable homeownership to disabled veterans and their families and will be outfitted with state of the art finishings adapted to the special needs of the veteran.

This community is made possible by the generous support of the County of San Diego, The Home Depot Foundation, TD Ameritrade, SAIC, and Cox Communications.

SDHFH - A Four-Star Charity

San Diego Habitat for Humanity has been recognized by Charity Navigator with a top rating of 4-stars for sound fiscal management and organizational transparency.

This rating distinguishes SDHFH’s excellent financial health – how responsibly it functions day to day in addition to how well it is positioned to sustain its programs over time. San Diego Habitat for Humanity has been found to outperform most other American charities in its area of service.

“Under the leadership of our Board of Directors, we have become a more transparent organization, working for the betterment of our community on behalf of our partner families, donors, and volunteers”, said Lori Holt Pfeiler, Executive Director of San Diego Habitat for Humanity.  “We are proud to be recognized as a charity that is fiscally sound with a thriving mission.  We are dedicated to utilizing donor contributions in the most responsible way, giving local families a hand up, not a hand out, to build and own simple, decent and affordable homes.”

What We Are Currently Building
Rock Street Home, SDSU College Area

Habitat returns to the City of San Diego to build one single family home for a local family in need.  Due to the small size of the lot, this 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home will be two stories and will provide 1,369 square feet of living space and an attached 2-car garage. The home will be built with sustainable and recycled building materials such as denim insulation, cement fiber siding, and composite fencing.

Florida Street - Imperial Beach, CA
Habitat’s first build in Imperial Beach  will consist of 4 new single family homes modeled after our  very successful Foundation Lane homes built in El Cajon in 2009.  The homes will have three bedrooms and two bathrooms and are approximately 1,300 square feet.
